January Crop development in January is centered strictly south of the equator. In Brazil- a major producer of Soybeans- the soybean crop is flowering. During the flowering stage of development the soybean crop is extremely sensitive to lack of precipitation and extreme heat. Stress to the Soybean crop during flowering could result in sub standard pod development and a major loss of yield. South Africa- minor Corn Producer- sees its Corn crop in the silking stage of development during January. This is a crucial stage of development which includes pollination. Excessive heat and drought tend to reduce yields during this stage of development. |
